Second Acquisition of the Year

According to Sol Systems, the transaction marks its second project acquisition of 2026 and reflects a disciplined approach to growing its IPP platform through both strategic acquisitions and direct project origination. Securing power purchase agreements remains a key lever for financing utility-scale solar assets, as illustrated by the 1.5 MW PPA recently signed by Nagaki Shoji with Sanden in Japan.

DESRI advanced the Lumberton project through development, permitting and commercialization. The transaction builds on the existing relationship between the two companies and reflects their shared commitment to accelerating the deployment of large-scale clean energy infrastructure. Similar growth in utility-scale solar is visible elsewhere, as shown by the recent connection of the 60 MW Sakaï 2 solar plant in the Central African Republic.

Rapid growth in utility-scale solar has also drawn increased scrutiny of its environmental effects, with a Chinese study recently linking solar expansion to declining bird biodiversity. The Lumberton acquisition is part of Sol Systems' long-term strategy to build, own and operate clean energy infrastructure across the United States.
