Xekong provincial government has marked the installation of the first turbine of the 600 MW Monsoon Wind Power Project, in Dakcheung district, Laos.

The wind farm, set to be the largest in Southeast Asia, will comprise 133 turbines on a sprawling 1,000-ha site spanning 25 villages. Boasting a production capacity of 600 MW and a total construction cost of US$900 million, the project is a significant undertaking. In the Dakcheung district, 110 turbines will be installed, complemented by an additional 23 in the Sanxay district, contributing to the electricity supply to Vietnam under a 25-year contract period.

Each turbine will be anchored on a robust and environmentally friendly foundation, measuring approximately 22 m in width and 35 m in depth. The tower's impressive height of 110 m will support an 85.5-m-long blade, with the turbine featuring a diameter of 171 m. Currently, the project stands at 30% completion, with construction slated for conclusion and electricity generation initiation in 2025.
