Serbia and Hyundai Engineering started talks on a project to develop 1 GW solar power plants, coupled with storage, in the eastern and southern parts of the country.

Serbian energy minister Dubravka Djedovic-Handanovic commented on the current developments on the project in a recent TV interview, as quoted on government websites on Tuesday.

The new solar sites will be built for state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) which last year selected a consortium of Hyundai Engineering, Hyundai ENG America and UGT Renewables as strategic partners for the construction of new solar capacities in the country.

The project envisages the construction of five clean power facilities with a combined capacity of 1.2 GWp, coupled with at least 200 MW of energy storage.

The facilities should be finalised by no later than June 1, 2028, according to earlier releases.
