UK-based Prime Teknologies has confirmed to ConstructAfrica that it is planning to build a 25MW photovoltaic solar plant in Nigeria at an as-yet undisclosed location.

The US$55 million project will cover an area of 150 acres and include multiple units of battery energy storage systems (BESS). It is targeted to serve about 20,000-30,000 residential and commercial customers.

Enabling works are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2024 with construction to be completed within 18-24 months.

Prime Teknologies will develop the plant in partnership with China’s Huawei Fusion Solar and the government of Nigeria as well as two state governments in the southeast.

Previously in 2024, the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority signed a joint venture agreement with the local North South Power Company (NSP) to co-invest in a 20MW solar-hydro hybrid project in Shiroro, Niger State in north-central Nigeria.

The agreement establishes Shiroro Generating Company as the project company for the scheme, which represents phase 1a of a larger 300MW solar programme located within NSP’s Shiroro hydropower plant concession area.
