Bymaro, the Moroccan subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, has been chosen to build the Mohammed VI university teaching hospital in Rabat.

Designed by Paris-based AIA Architectes, the €450m hospital will be built in the centre of the Moroccan capital of Rabat.

It will consist of four six-storey buildings and a 25-storey tower with a total floor area of more than 275,000 sq m.

When complete in September next year, the hospital will have 553 beds and 20 operating theatres, as well as 15 lecture theatres, 72 teaching rooms and 217 rooms for practical work, all fitted out with the latest audiovisual technology.

The hospital will be arranged around three complementary structures:

• A tower to house consultations, administration and teaching areas;
• The hospital, with technical facilities, emergency services, inpatient wards and logistics;
• The university, which will contain the lecture theatres.

The hospital aims to set a new standard for university hospitals in Morocco in terms of architecture and the quality of care and teaching.

It will have 8,800 sq m of photovoltaic panels with an output of 2MW, which will cover some 10% of the site’s demand.

Pierre-Eric Saint-André, the deputy chief executive of Bouygues Construction, said: “We will call on all our technical expertise to meet the ambitious deadlines and achieve the environmental targets that have been set.”

The Mohammed VI will be the third hospital undertaken by Bymaro over the past five years.

It handed over the Mohammed VI university hospital in Bouskoura in 2019 and is continuing to work in Smart Health Care City in Benguerir.
