Mozambique’s Council of Ministers has approved the award of the concession for the construction, operation, management, maintenance and transfer of the Port of Pemba to Pemba Bulk Terminal Limitada (PBT), a joint venture of CD Properties and Portos de Cabo Delgado.

The facility is located in the northern Cabo Delgado province on the Indian Ocean coast.

As the concession holder, PBT will make investments totalling US$1.1 billion to improve the infrastructure at the port and logistics terminal, including the floating dock and the rehabilitation of the main quay, and support for expanding oil operations.

The Port of Pemba is a secondary port, and underwent a major rehabilitation in 2019, which lifted its cargo-handling capacity to about 27,000 TEUs a year from 18,000 TEUs previously.

The port has an access channel with 1,800 metres of navigable width and 30 metres of depth; a 183-metre pier; two mooring fronts; a 20,000-square-metre storage area; and a 1,800-square-metre warehouse.
