Lagos picks China Civil Engineering to build Lekki–Epe Link Bridge
The governor of Lagos State in Nigeria has signed a memorandum of understanding with China Civil Engineering (CCECC) for the construction of a bridge over the Lagos Lagoon between the port city of Lekki and the town of Epe.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu concluded the preliminary agreement in Beijing yesterday, after which he released a statement on X to say that the Lekki–Epe Link Bridge was needed to decrease congestion and improve the lives of Lagosians. He said: “We have had discussions about awarding the EPC [engineering, construction and procurement] contract to CCECC, and feasibility and design studies for the project have been conducted.”
The agreement was made during the China–Africa Cooperation Summit, and was witnessed by Nigerian president Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Sanwo-Olu also signed a preliminary agreement to install 50MW of solar power systems in a number of universities, including the Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Lagos State University of Education and Lagos State College of Medicine.
