Skanska has signed a $126m contract with the Tennessee Department of General Services to renovate downtown Nashville’s Legislative Plaza, a 1975 development that offers spaces for public events above government offices.

The square will be renovated, as will the office space and its mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.

The plaza contains a neo-classical memorial to the Tennessee soldiers who died in World War I. It was designed by Edward Dougherty with architect McKim, Mead & White.

It also contains a statue dedicated to the Women of the Confederacy by Belle Kinney and a monument to the Tennesseans who served in the Korean War by Russell Faxon.

Vietnam Veterans Park lies south of the building and contains a statue by Nashville sculptor Alan LeQuire.

Construction is due to begin next month and be completed by January 2027.
