Two rail projects have been inaugurated in Anuradhapura, northern Sri Lanka as part of the India-Sri Lanka development partnership.

The 128km Maho-Omanthai railway has been funded with $91m from India, with the country spending $15m on an advanced signalling system on the Maho to Anuradhapura line.

A press release from the Indian government states that the two routes will serve both passenger and freight traffic, acting as a “significant milestone” in Sri Lanka’s north-south rail connectivity.
