Yellow Door Energy signs PPA for Bahrain solar project
Bahrain-based Foulath Holding has signed an Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Dubai-headquartered Yellow Door Energy to develop a 123-megawatt-peak (MWp) solar power project, which will include the world’s largest single-site rooftop solar plant.
The 50MWp rooftop plant will consist of 77,000 solar panels installed across a 262,000-square-metre stockyard shed.
The announcement was made during the Gateway Gulf investment forum hosted by the Bahrain Economic Development Board on 2 November.
The 123MWp solar project will be developed at Foulath Holding's industrial complex in Salman Industrial City, Al-Hidd, where its subsidiaries Bahrain Steel and United Steel Company (SULB) are based.
In total, the site will include ten rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) plants and four ground-mounted PV installations. The system will feature 189,900 high-efficiency panels spread across 707,000 square metres.
According to Foulath, the project is expected to generate 200 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy in its first year, cutting carbon emissions by 90,000 metric tonnes.
Yellow Door Energy's total awarded portfolio now stands at 400MWp.
The company will finance, design, build, commission, operate and maintain the solar facilities throughout the duration of the PPA.
In March, Abu Dhabi-based Emsteel partnered with Yellow Door Energy to develop a 31MW solar power project.
The renewable energy firm will finance, build, own, operate and maintain solar panel installations across 40 Emsteel roofs at the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD) 1 industrial complex, to help power Emsteel's operations.
Commissioning of this project is targeted for 2026.
