Algeria’s state-owned utility, Sonelgaz, is inviting proposals to construct 15 solar plants across 11 locations. The projects, which range in size from 80 MW to 220 MW, aim to contribute to the country’s renewable energy goals.
Sonelgaz has released a list of preselected bidders for the 2 GW solar tender it launched earlier this year. The list includes 20 bidders who submitted a total of 77 offers for the 13 lots included in the procurement exercise.
The selected developers will build solar projects in various regions of Algeria. The Béchar region will host two projects with capacities of 80 MW and 120 MW. The M’Sila and B.B. Arreidj regions will house a 220 MW project and an 80 MW plant, respectively. The Batna region has been proposed for another 80 MW facility.
Additionally, the Laghouat and Ghardaia regions will host projects with capacities of 200 MW and 80 MW, respectively. The El Oued region will have installations of 200 MW and 80 MW. The Touggort and M’Ghaier regions are set to host 130 MW and 220 MW solar projects. The Biskra region will see the construction of three projects with capacities of 200 MW, 80 MW, and 150 MW.
To promote the local manufacturing industry, the selected developers are required to use at least 35% of components manufactured in Algeria.
Algeria aims to deploy 15 GW of solar capacity by 2030. Currently, the country has approximately 435 MW of installed solar capacity.
This article is a summarization of Sonelgaz’s call for proposals to build 15 solar plants in Algeria, with capacities ranging from 80 MW to 220 MW. The selected developers will construct the projects in various regions of the country. The initiative aligns with Algeria’s goal to deploy 15 GW of solar capacity by 2030.
