Oman: Uptick in electricity and water production during Q3

Electricity production in Oman experienced a noteworthy 6.0% growth during the third quarter of 2023, culminating in 41,698 megawatt-hours (MWh), a marked elevation from the 38,403.9 MWh registered in the third quarter of 2022, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

This upswing was propelled by a robust 7.6% increase in electricity production within the private sector, amounting to 40,362.9 MWh, contrasting with 36,661.2 MWh in the third quarter of 2022. Simultaneously, electricity production in the public sector exhibited a more modest 2.0% increase, reaching 1,335.1 MWh, up from 1,312.7 MWh in the third quarter of 2022.

Concurrently, water production in Oman saw a 2.0% rise during the third quarter of 2023, registering 512,440 thousand cubic meters (MCM), surpassing the 502,420 MCM recorded in the third quarter of 2022.

This escalation was underpinned by a 3.5% increase in water production within the private sector, reaching 218,550.9 MCM, as opposed to 211,655.2 MCM in the third quarter of 2022. Water production in the public sector also experienced a marginal 0.1% uptick, amounting to 29,389.1 MCM, compared to 29,304.8 MCM in the third quarter of 2022.

This amplified output in electricity and water production mirrors the sustained economic growth in Oman. The trajectory of this growth is envisaged to persist in the foreseeable future, aligning with Oman's strategic pursuits to propel economic expansion through investments across diverse sectors.
