TENAGA Nasional Bhd (TNB) is collaborating with Trina Solar Co Ltd to advance clean energy solutions. With this agreement, TNB continues to drive sustainable energy transition with its subsidiary GSPARX Sdn Bhd and Trina Solar. This partnership, marked by the exchange of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between GSPARX MD Elmie Fairul Mashuri and Trina Solar energy development GM — South-East Asia Elva Wang, will play a significant role in advancing solar power solutions, encompassing rooftop, floating and ground-mounted systems. TNB president and CEO Datuk Ir Baharin Din said this alliance highlights the company’s commitment to accelerating Malaysia’s energy transition goals. “Our partnership with Trina Solar is pivotal in harnessing Malaysia’s solar potential and driving us closer to achieving Net-Zero 2050 through sustainable practices,” he said in a statement. Trina Solar, in collaboration with GSPARX, aims to enhance technical capabilities and address challenges posed by solar rooftop projects. This alignment is working to find business opportunities across rooftop, floating and ground-mounted solar systems, a massive step in advancing Malaysia’s solar photovoltaic (PV) market. “Our collaboration with Trina Solar represents a commitment to sustainable transformation and environmental stewardship. These initiatives not only reinforce TNB’s leadership in driving an eco-conscious energy transition but also open doors to an array of opportunities while fostering technological innovation. “This strategic alliance embodies TNB’s relentless dedication to reshaping Malaysia’s energy landscape for a better, brighter future,” Baharin added. Aside from solar initiatives, GSPARX and Trina Solar will partner to explore innovative smart grid solutions, such as energy storage, further emphasising their dedication to cutting-edge sustainable technology. TNB has spearheaded three flagship projects as outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). Its Energy Transition Plan aligns with the NETR, emphasising three key pillars, namely accelerating generation decarbonisation, working on a flexible cross-border grid and empowering cross-sector electrification and prosumers.

Currently, TNB is on track to achieve its 8.3 gigawatts (GW) renewable energy (RE) target by 2025.
