Danish wind turbine maker Vestas has secured an order for a 124MW wind energy project in Telsiai, Lithuania from Latvenergo and Utilitas Wind.

The project, a collaboration between Utilitas and Latvenergo, will feature 20 Vestas’ V162-6.2 MW wind turbines.

The contract includes the turbines’ supply, delivery and commissioning.

The company will also provide lifecycle services under an Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement to optimise their performance.

Vestas has announced that turbine delivery and commissioning are scheduled for early 2026, with the wind farm expected to begin producing energy in the first quarter of the year.

Vestas sales Eastern Europe vice-president Jens Pinderup stated: “We are proud to work on our third project with Utilitas Wind across the three Baltic states and we now look forward to the installation phase and to execute on our long-term service commitment. We are pleased that the competitiveness of our EnVentus platform, allows our key partners to continue their journey towards energy independence in the Baltic region.

“Congratulations to Utilitas Wind and Latvenergo AS on their contract of construction and operation of the wind turbine project. We are confident that the Vestas turbines will deliver the planned annual output for the region.”

Latvenergo management board chairman Mārtiņš Čakste stated: “We are delighted to have Vestas involved in our project, one of the industry’s leading brands that we have known since we installed our first WPP turbines in Ainaži in the mid-1990s.

‘We share the same values, as both Latvenergo and Vestas work with the conviction that sustainability is the guiding principle of responsible business.”

The wind farm will generate enough electricity to supply 125,000 households annually.

The development follows Latvenergo’s acquisition of the wind farm from Utilitas Wind in May 2024.

Merko Statyba UAB has been tasked with constructing the necessary infrastructure, which includes connection facilities, access roads, cable networks and turbine foundations.

Utilitas Wind will oversee project management. The total estimated cost for the wind farm construction is €200m.
