Recently, Shougang Jingtang supplied self-developed ultra-high-strength steel for marine engineering to the Uaru Project in Guyana, a project undertaken by MODEC Offshore Production Systems (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. for the manufacturing of floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) units. This was another of Shougang Jingtang's big export orders of ultra-high-strength steel for marine engineering.

As sea installations become larger, there is a greater demand for single large unit steel sheets for marine engineering. Ultra-high-strength steel is used in ships and marine engineering, as well as oil and gas extraction, storage, and transportation. It is characterized by high strength and toughness and excellent weldability, and can increase performance in the Z-direction. By taking advantage of this opportunity, Shougang Jingtang and the China Shougang International Trade & Engineering Corporation accelerated product upgrading and structural adjustment, and made the utmost efforts to expand the marketing channels for ship plate and steel for marine engineering, provide professional and personalized services, and fully cater to needs of the end users.

The EVI model was adopted in this export order. According to customer requirements, Shougang Jingtang and the Shougang Research Institute of Technology provided the customer with overall solutions through technological innovation. Characterized by ultra thickness and width, the ABS/EQ43 ultra-high-strength steel for marine engineering has a yield strength of more than 420 MPa and remains tough at -40℃. There were breakthroughs in all indicators. The Manufacturing Department, Medium Thick Steel Sheet Division, Steel Rolling Department, Sales Management Department, and Shougang Jingtang Technology Center collaborated with the Shougang Research Institute of Technology, Beijing Shougang Co., Ltd. Marketing Center and China Shougang International Trade & Engineering Corporation to improve the billet design and rolling procedures and meet the specification and dimension requirements. Moreover, due to the product’s ultra thickness and width, the rolling and water cooling processes were upgraded to ensure high strength and toughness. Finally, the user’s requirements for dimensions, performance, and surface quality were met, and excellent services were ensured from contracting to product delivery. The rapid delivery of this order reflects Shougang Jingtang's ability to cater to user needs with high speed, as well as its capacity in intelligent manufacturing.

It was learned that the Uaru FPSO unit is named Errea Wittu, meaning ''abundance,'' and will become Guyana' fifth offshore FPSO unit. Situated at a depth of 1,690 m in the ocean and 200 km offshore of Guyana, it employs the SOFEC offshore mooring system and can store about two million barrels of crude oil. It is expected to be delivered in 2026.
