ADB Finances Yapı Kredi Leasing in Türkiye With $50 Million

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed a $50 million medium-term financing deal with Yapı Kredi Leasing, one of Türkiye's largest leasing companies. The transaction marks ADB's first deal in Türkiye's financial leasing industry. The proceeds aim to scale up financing for renewable energy, energy efficiency and green industry through the company's sustainable leasing operations.
Financing directed toward clean energy
Proceeds from the loan will finance Yapı Kredi Leasing's sustainable lease portfolios, including equipment or facilities supporting solar photovoltaic, wind and geothermal energy. The solar sector currently accounts for a growing share of financing deals worldwide, as illustrated by the solar power purchase agreement signed by Nagaki Shoji with Sanden in Japan or the solar subcontract secured by Founder Group in Malaysia. ADB's financing also covers electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, as well as energy-efficient industrial equipment, primarily for the textile industry.
About 15% of the loan proceeds will be earmarked for so-called "blue lease" portfolios, dedicated to facilities such as the production of plastic packaging from biodegradable materials, fisheries equipment, plastic recycling and wastewater treatment plants. The project, named the YK Lease Sustainability Energy Transition Finance Project, is aligned with ADB's interim country partnership strategy for Türkiye for 2025-2027, as well as with the country's Green Deal Action Plan and Medium-Term Economics Programs.
A deal welcomed by both parties
According to Leah Gutierrez, ADB Director General for Central and West Asia, the transaction marks the bank's first deal in Türkiye's financial leasing industry, "which plays an important role in financing productive investment for the country's growth and development." She added that the partnership with Yapı Kredi Leasing helps make markets investable while putting energy production and consumption at the center of Türkiye's efforts to strengthen the resilience of its economy.
Yapı Kredi Leasing CEO Fatih Torun described the partnership as a new milestone for the company and for Türkiye's sustainable finance market. According to him, the financing will expand access to leasing solutions and help Turkish companies invest in technologies that strengthen competitiveness and resilience, while contributing to the country's environmental objectives.
Yapı Kredi Leasing and the Koç Group
Yapı Kredi Leasing is directly owned by Yapı Kredi, Türkiye's fourth largest private bank by assets and a member of the Koç Group, one of the country's largest conglomerates. In 2021, the Koç Group launched its Carbon Transition Program, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050, with the leasing company among its key contributors.
Founded in 1966, ADB is owned by 69 members, 50 of them from the Asia-Pacific region. The multilateral development institution supports sustainable, inclusive and resilient growth across Asia and the Pacific, mobilizing financial tools and strategic partnerships with its members.
