During the week of December 2, solar photovoltaic energy production in the Iberian market saw an increase compared to the previous week. The Portuguese market led the gains, rising by 6.4%, while the Spanish market saw a more modest increase of 0.8%. Both markets continued their upward trends for the second and third consecutive weeks, respectively. In contrast, the Italian, French and German markets experienced declines in solar energy generation. The Italian market recorded the smallest drop of 10%, continuing its downward trend for the third week. The German market saw the largest decline at 47%, while the French market decreased by 24%, AleaSoft reports.

During this week, the French, Spanish and Portuguese markets set all-time records for solar photovoltaic energy production on a single day in December. The French and Spanish markets reached their highest daily production values on December 4 and 5, with 44 GWh and 87 GWh, respectively. The Portuguese market hit its peak on Sunday, December 8, producing 11 GWh of solar energy. Meanwhile, the Italian market achieved its second-highest daily production for December on Monday, December 2, with 42 GWh, and the German market reached its second-highest value for the month on Thursday, December 5, with 66 GWh, following the 79 GWh recorded on Sunday, December 1.

Looking ahead to the second week of December, forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting suggest an increase in solar energy production in the German and Italian markets. In contrast, photovoltaic generation is expected to decrease in the Spanish market.

In the first week of December, wind energy production increased in the Iberian and French markets compared to the previous week. The Spanish market saw the highest rise, with a 69% increase, while the Portuguese market experienced the smallest growth at 8.2%. The French market saw a 50% rise. On the other hand, both the Italian and German markets experienced declines in wind energy generation for the second consecutive week. The Italian market saw a 3.5% decrease, while the German market registered a 7.5% drop.

The French market recorded its highest-ever wind energy production for a December day on Saturday, December 7, with 409 GWh. Similarly, the Italian market reached its second-highest value of wind energy production in December on Sunday, December 8, with 162 GWh.

For the week of December 9, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting’s wind energy production forecasts predict a general decrease in wind energy production across major European electricity markets compared to the previous week, AleaSoft reports.
