Saudi Arabia issues tenders for two PPP water projects

Water Transmission Company (WTCO) has announced the launch of tenders for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) works for the development of independent water transmission system projects under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

In line with the objectives of the National Water Strategy 2030, WTCO, as the lead developer, invites EPC contractors to undertake the turnkey EPC of the following two projects:

  • The Ras Mohaisen-Baha-Makkah Independent Water Transmission System project, which aims to supply the cities of Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Al-Baha with desalinated water. The project has a maximum design flow rate of 542,000 cubic metres a day, and a total pipeline length of approximately 325 kilometres, including four pumping stations. The project includes the development of a desalinated water transmission pipeline and water storage facilities connecting the Ras Mohaisen desalinated water production plant to the distribution networks.
  • The Jubail-Buraidah 2 Independent Water Transmission System project, which aims to supply cities in the Al-Qassim region with desalinated water. The project has a maximum design flow rate of 840,000 cm/d, and a total pipeline length of approximately 348km, with one main pumping station. As part of the larger Jubail-Buraydah Water Transmission Programme, the project includes the development of a desalinated water transmission pipeline and water storage facilities connecting the Jubail desalinated water production plant to the distribution networks.

Water Transmission Company is a government-owned entity, established under Cabinet Resolution No. 32 in September 2019. Operating on a commercial basis, WTCO provides water transmission and strategic storage services across the kingdom.

Licensed by the Saudi Water Authority, the company manages the transmission of desalinated and treated water, as well as strategic storage, through seven integrated systems that cover planning, development, design and operations of critical water infrastructure
